Grade Evaluation

Grading

Grading:

Grades are determined by evaluating exam scores out of 100. A student's performance in a course is determined by their grade. The grade is determined by evaluating both the midterm grade, which is based on work completed during the semester, and the final grade, which is based on performance on the final exam at the end of the semester. Mid-term work includes attendance in classes and practical sessions, fieldwork, practical work, assignments, projects, internships, workshops, seminars, laboratory work, and similar activities. The student's mid-term success grade may be determined by evaluating these activities together with a mid-term exam at a certain rate during the last week of the semester as specified in the academic calendar. The general exam can have a minimum of 40% and a maximum of 60% impact on the course grade. The impact ratios of the mid-term grade and the general exam on the final grade, as well as the application method of mid-term activities for the student to be considered successful, are announced to the students by the instructor responsible for the course within the first two weeks of the semester.

A relative evaluation system is used in calculating the grade. In relative evaluation, the arithmetic mean and statistical distribution of the course grades of all students taking the course are taken into account. The principles of the relative evaluation system are determined by the Senate.

Course grades and coefficients are determined as follows:

Grades (letters) Coefficients

AA 4.00

BA 3.50

BB 3.00

CB 2.50

CC 2.00

DC 1.50

DD 1.00

FD 0.50

FF 0.00

From the grades:

a) S: Successful in non-credit courses,

b) U: Unsuccessful in non-credit courses,

c) P: Successful at the end of the first semester in annual courses,

d) EX: Successful in the exemption exam conducted by the university,

e) NI: Grade of courses not included in the weighted average,

f) NA: Failed due to not meeting the attendance and/or practical requirements, and therefore not eligible to take the final exams,

g) T: Defined as the grade of a transferred course.

A student who receives one of the grades AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, S, or EX in a course is considered to have passed that course. A student who receives a DC or DD grade in one or more courses is considered to have passed that course/courses if the academic average of all courses registered in the semester in which the course was taken is 2.00 or above.

The T grade is given to students who transfer from other departments of the university or from another university for courses they have previously taken and whose equivalence has been accepted by the faculty/college council upon the recommendation of the department chair. It is not included in the calculation of the academic grade point average.

Academic Average

Students' academic performance is determined by calculating their semester academic average and overall academic average. The weighted score for a course is calculated by multiplying the course credit by the grade point multiplier for that course.

The semester academic average is calculated by dividing the total weighted points of the courses that must be taken in that semester, as specified in the course plan, by the total credits of the courses. Annual courses are included in the spring semester academic average.

The overall academic average is calculated by dividing the total of the weighted points, which are based on the grades received in all courses that the student is required to take during their period of study, by the total credits of the courses taken.

When calculating the academic average, two decimal places are used. If the third decimal place is 5 or greater, the second decimal place is increased by one.

Minor, double major courses, and courses with S and T grades, even if they are included in the education and training plan, are not taken into account in the calculation of the academic average. If the student has repeated courses, the most recent grade received in those courses is included in the academic average.

Students may retake courses in which they received DD, DC, or CC grades to improve their academic average, if they wish. The most recent grade received in these courses is included in the academic average.
