Course Objective
The objective of this course is to examine the historical development, sources, methods, and fundamental debates of the science of Siyer from an academic perspective. Students will critically evaluate classical and modern sources on the life of the Prophet Muhammad, analysing the historical context and reliability criteria of the narrations. Furthermore, the course aims to understand the transformations in Sirah writing throughout Islamic history. This course aims to develop a sustainable intellectual approach to the preservation of cultural heritage and the transmission of religious knowledge.
Brief Content of the Course
This course examines the science of Sīrah—the study of the Prophet Muhammad’s life—from historical, methodological, and source-based perspectives. It explores the development of Sīrah writing from the early Islamic period to the present, analyzing the reliability and use of primary sources. The interrelations between Sīrah, ḥadīth, history, and tafsīr are discussed. The course aims to foster a sustainable understanding and transmission of Sīrah knowledge in the modern era.
