Course Objective

The objective of this course is to equip students with the ability to analyze environmental problems from a sociological perspective. The course aims to understand the interactions between the environment and society and to assess the social, economic, and cultural dimensions of environmental crises. Students will examine the social structures, power relations, and economic and political factors that contribute to environmental problems; they will also critically evaluate environmental policies and sustainability approaches. Throughout the course, students will analyze the environmental impacts of modernization, urbanization, globalization, and technological advancements; and they will discuss environmental movements, ecological activism, and the development of social consciousness. Furthermore, students will develop their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations through research, literature review, data analysis, and case studies. Upon completion of the course, students will graduate with a holistic sociological approach to environmental problems, the ability to develop solutions, and competence in academic endeavors.
