Course Objective
The aim of this course is to examine the phenomenon of addiction from a social work perspective, to understand its causes, processes, types, and effects; to teach the role and practices of social work in combating addiction; and to enable students to gain knowledge and professional skills in prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation in the field of addiction.
Brief Content of the Course
The course covers the basic concepts of addiction, addictive substances, the history, causes, and consequences of addiction. Diagnostic criteria, the addiction process, treatment methods, the service delivery system for addiction in Turkey, working with families and adolescents, social work practices, and motivational interviewing techniques are discussed. In addition, behavioral addictions, current debates, and student presentations are included to conclude the course.
