Course Objective
The aim of this introductory course in architectural history is to discuss the discipline of architectural history in its various dimensions; to examine architectural history concepts and terminology; and to outline the main developments and characteristic periods in architectural history in terms of their social, economic, and geographical backgrounds, institutions, building types, and construction techniques.
Brief Content of the Course
The discipline of architectural history in its various dimensions; concepts and terminology in architectural history; building materials, construction techniques, and structures in traditional architectural history; the historical development of the architectural profession; an introduction to the history of architecture: early humans, environmental influences, changes brought about by agriculture, and early civilizations; Terra Amata: humanity's oldest shelter; megalithic constructions; Çatalhöyük: Neolithic settlements in Anatolia. Domestic architecture and its development in Anatolia during the Neolithic period.
