Course Objective
Description, classification and interpretation of metamorphic rocks, macroscopically and microscopically.
Brief Content of the Course
Definition and types of metamorphism. Factors of metamorphism and metamorphism processes. Zone, facies and grades in metamorphism. Classification of metamorphic rocks, structural/textural properties. Macroscopic and especially microscopic identification of rock types formed by contact, dynamic and regional metamorphism. Nomenclature of rocks by determining their textural properties, mineralogical composition, etc. Relationships between plate tectonics and metamorphism.
