Course Objective
The aim of this course is to enable students to make the necessary calculations to apply advanced measurement and application techniques in the field, to reinforce the professional knowledge acquired over three semesters in volume calculations and road route determination with sample solutions, and to gain awareness of sustainable land use and environmental awareness in all these applications.
Brief Content of the Course
Volume calculations, zero polygon determination, route alignment, curve elements, and gradient calculations are critical components in highway and infrastructure projects. Applying these techniques with sustainability principles helps minimize environmental degradation, preserve natural landscapes, and build long-lasting infrastructure. Route selection should favor paths that cause minimal ecological disruption, while gradient and curve design must aim to improve fuel efficiency and reduce erosion. Volume and zero polygon computations should prioritize minimal excavation and filling to maintain the natural topography as much as possible.
