Course Objective
To introduce organic chemistry and reactions of compounds containing various functional groups.
Brief Content of the Course
Carbon compounds and chemicals. Identification of carbon compounds. Introduction to organic compounds, acids and bases. Alkanes and cycloalkanes. Conformation of molecules. Alkenes and alkynes I. Properties, Synthesis and reactions. Alcohols and ethers. Alcohols from carbonyl compounds. Oxidation, reduction and organometallic compounds obtained from alcohol. Aromatic compounds. Reactions of aromatic compounds. Carboxylic acids and derivatives thereof. Carbohydrates. Amino acids. Experimental: Separation and purification methods, and identification reactions of organic functional groups
