Course Objective
The aim of this course is to teach the fundamental concepts of sociology, its relationship with sport, and the sociological impact of athletes, sports institutions, and sporting activities on individuals and society within the context of physical education and sport.
Brief Content of the Course
This course examines the relationship between the fundamental concepts of sociology and sport, including athletes, sports clubs, various sporting units, events, and phenomena as they appear in athletic activities. It explores how sport manifests and sustains itself within social life and its connections with other societal institutions. Topics include sport and culture, sport and demographics, sport and society, sport and education, sport and the economy, deviance and violence in sport, sport and media, popular culture and sport, the sports industry, sport and politics, the institutionalization of sport from a historical perspective, and the distinction between amateurism and professionalism in sport.
